CAPIO Quarterly Newsletter (Q1: January – March 2025)

Dear Partners, Supporters, and Friends,

This newsletter highlights key events, achievements, and upcoming plans as we continue working towards a just and humane society.

As we step into a new quarter, we reflect on the journey so far in 2025. The first quarter has been filled with impactful activities, advocacy efforts, and transformational interventions. At CAPIO, our commitment to justice reform, human rights protection, and the rehabilitation of inmates remains unwavering.

Bringing Hope and Healing to Oji River Custodial Center

Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization (CAPIO) continues its mission of restoring hope and dignity to those behind bars. During our recent medical outreach at Oji River Medium Security Custodial Center, we witnessed the power of compassion and collective effort in transforming lives.

With the dedication of doctors, nurses, and volunteers, inmates received much-needed medical attention, health education, and emotional support. Beyond treating ailments, we reassured them that they are not forgotten—that they deserve care, respect, and a second chance.

As we strive to promote justice, rehabilitation, and humanity, your support makes all the difference. Together, we can restore dignity, advocate for prison reforms, and create a society where justice is truly restorative.

Mental Health & Wellness: CAPIO’s Commitment to Healing

At Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization (CAPIO), we recognize that mental and physical health are fundamental to human dignity. In line with our mission to promote justice, wellness, and humanity, CAPIO recently hosted impactful health-focused initiatives in collaboration with our esteemed partners.

In partnership with Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Care Foundation, we organized a Mental Health Awareness Campaign for the staff of Oji River Medium Security Custodial Center. The session focused on the importance of mental wellness, self-care, and creating a supportive work environment. Through expert-led discussions, we emphasized strategies to manage stress, maintain well-being, and foster a positive mental health culture.

Similarly, in collaboration with Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Care Foundation and Bensther Foundation, CAPIO extended its medical outreach to the Nsukka Medium Security Custodial Centre. This initiative focused on educating staff about mental health while addressing the cumulative effects of substance abuse on their overall well-being.

Restoring Health, Dignity, and Hope

As part of the ongoing healthcare intervention in Enugu State’s security custodial centers, Carmelite Prisoners’ Interest Organization (CAPIO) conducted a medical outreach at Nsukka Medium Security Custodial Centre. Through this initiative, inmates received essential medical care and support, ensuring their well-being and dignity are upheld.

At CAPIO, we remain committed to restoring hope, promoting health, and advocating for justice. Join us in making a difference.

A heartfelt appreciation goes to our dedicated doctors, nurses, and volunteers who made this possible. Your commitment to service is transforming lives!

At CAPIO, we believe in the power of healthcare, justice, and compassion to create a better future.
