Pathways to Reform and Reintegration
- 22% raised
- $25,000 (goal)
Prison should not only be about punishment it should prepare people for life after release.
At CAPIO, we see rehabilitation as a practical, rights-based intervention that gives inmates the tools to reform and rebuild. Our goal is simple: to support the personal development of inmates and give them a real chance at reintegration into society.
Many inmates enter the system with limited education, no employable skills, and deep psychological wounds. Without intervention, they leave worse than they came in. That’s what our Rehabilitation Programme works to change.
What we do
1. Education and Learning Support
Donate books and learning materials to custodial centres.
Establish Learning Resource Centres across prisons in Nigeria.
Provide scholarships for inmates enrolled in:
Adult literacy programmes
Post-primary education
National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) degree programmes
2. Counselling and Personal Development
Offer individual and group counselling sessions focused on behavioural reform, identity rebuilding, and emotional regulation.
Train prison staff and volunteers to support psychological well-being.
3. Post-Release Reintegration Support
Advocate for structured rehabilitation and resettlement plans.
Connect ex-inmates to job training, mental health services, and community support.
Help secure startup tools and business support for selected ex-inmates.
4. Recreation and Skills Development
Promote physical activity and mental resilience through recreational programmes.
Organize sports competitions and skill-building activities that build teamwork, confidence, and leadership.
Why it matters
Without rehabilitation, imprisonment becomes a revolving door. Many inmates reoffend simply because they leave prison worse off unskilled, stigmatized, and isolated.
This programme reduces that cycle. It builds knowledge, strengthens identity, and promotes social responsibility.
Support this work
CAPIO’s rehabilitation efforts depend on partnerships and donations. We invite individuals, schools, publishers, foundations, and corporations to support this programme by:
Donating educational or vocational materials
Sponsoring scholarships for inmates
Funding the setup of learning or sports facilities
Providing mentorship or post-prison support
Help us build not just better prisons but better outcomes for people who leave them.
